Kiva.org is a micro-lending site that let's you loan money to the working poor. Alleviating world poverty is the goal. The people featured on Kiva are entrepreneurs in need of funding to make themselves and their families self sufficient.
You can browse entrepreneurs' profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan. A minimum of $25 per loan is required. The people repay and the money shows up in your account as a Kiva credit. You can then either reloan or withdraw the money.
To date I have made 11 loans. And not one person has defaulted.
